MLB Wild Card Umpire Controversy

Wow! By now, I am sure everybody saw 'the play' in the 8th inning of tonight's Cardinals/Braves game. Thus, I won't review it. Like most, the infield fly ruling was not even on my mind when it happened.

However, that was called. Momentum IMMEDIATELY went down the drain for the Braves, and it was over with the next inning. What a way to go out...

I do not agree with littering the field with garbage - that was not the way to handle things. With that being said, you have to understand the fans' frustrations there.

We just lived through a nightmare surrounding NFL referees. The last thing we need to see is that carry on in other sports. Plus, the fans wanted to see Braves' Chipper Jones win. After last year's collapse, this felt like a MAJOR game for not only fans...but Atlanta residents in general.

Sadly, we will never know how much that 8th inning call changed things. The Cardinals won and will advance. The Braves, Atlanta residents, and especially Chipper, will go home thinking the same thing:

Really?
